Gas biomarkers in the field of gut health can be used for diagnosis, assessment, and monitoring of gut disorders. It also has the capacity to investigate diet health effects of foods. In this research thesis, the author outlines a real-time gas and pH monitoring in-vitro digestion simulation platform for measuring upper gastrointestinal gas production and identification of key features relating to digestive health outcomes. This research provides a framework that can be utilised in multiple fields including the food industry, dieticians, and gastroenterologists for identifying gut-friendly ingredients, understanding of foods impact on gut disorders, and ability to simulate gut disorders for investigative purposes.
