Theatre of operations, or: construction site as architectural design

thesis
posted on 2024-11-23, 20:44 authored by Jo Van Den Berghe
A creation process in architecture all too automatically is considered as a unidirectional process that starts with to dream the poetic image, that subsequently is substantiated—to make—on the construction site. In my Ph.D, I have formulated a fundamental critique on this unidirectionality, and I have demonstrated how the process of to make can be the generator of to dream the poetic image. Through design, and through close observations on (my) architectural practice(s), more specifically construction practice, I have demonstrated that, and how, the creation process is two-directional.
