This research has been provoked by the political and the personal through an engagement with affect theory. The writing, the images and the videos that together form this book, are an attempt to express from a subjective place, where I intersect with the world - through an affective and empathic perspective - with those people whose lives have been disrupted because they do not 'belong'. The work relies on personal history, but it might expose realities that may apply to others whose beginnings, perspectives or sympathies are similar to mine.

The work examines how the politically charged interruptions or disruptions that are as a result of the experience of the margins might be represented in image and text
and it examines how creative work can offer a possibility of an affective response that may allow for a more empathetic viewing and understanding of the experiences
of migration?

This dissertation attempts to contextualise these political concerns through practice led research, that has evolved through a hybrid of critical theory, primarily affect
theory, and a dialectic that positions itself in relation to migration, place, bodies and affect.
